I’m an Artist!
A quasi-mixtape of reimagined works close to my heart -
all arranged and performed on the viola
Jess Porter-Langson
experimental violist / violinist, composer, arranger, tortured artist
Jess Porter-Langson (they/them) is a modern and subversive multi-instrumentalist, composer, and performance artist. Their work is an ever-evolving exploration of sound, drawing inspiration from the avant-garde, experimental, ambient, and even the utterly unlistenable—balanced by the harmonic richness of classical music.
Blurring the lines between genres, JPL crafts intricate soundscapes that challenge conventions, embracing both chaos and precision. They are as comfortable with the raw energy of punk as they are with the structured beauty of classical composition, creating a space where tradition and rebellion collide.
With an approach that treats every sound, instrument, and unexpected noise as a potential tool, JPL is committed to pushing boundaries in both live performance and recorded works. Their art exists in the in-between—somewhere between structure and spontaneity, dissonance and resolution, the familiar and the unknown.
